Spanish

Through generous philanthropic support, our OLL Spanish program was established in 2019 to provide our students with the skills and perspectives to become global citizens of the world.  We aim to teach not only the rich and vibrant Spanish language but also an awareness of and respect for Spanish-speaking cultures throughout the world.

Spanish classes for all OLL students are focused on comprehension and culture using songs, stories and games that build students' Spanish skills in an organic way.

Spanish Grades 3-8

Curriculum

This year in Spanish we are focusing on conversational Spanish and guiding the students brain to create the connections of their vocabulary into creating their own sentences and understanding.

Complete Spanish All-in-One (Third Edition) by Gilda Nissenberg, PhD,editor is utilized for the grammar lessons and phonetics (pronunciation) of the language.
ACTFL (The American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages) scale will be the use to evaluate the students in the classroom.
  • The ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) is a valid and reliable means of assessing how well a person speaks a language.  The OPI is proficiency-based. It assesses the ability to use language effectively and appropriately in real-life situations.  It assesses spontaneous unrehearsed language.
  • The ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) is a web-based, proctored, standardized test of the global assessment of functional writing ability in a language. The WPT measures how well a person spontaneously writes in a language (without access to revisions and/or editing tools).
RAE (Real Academia Española) is to obtain the vocabulary utilized in the classroom.
