Social/Emotional Learning

As the counselor at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School, I advocate for student success through classroom guidance lessons and the proper teaching of the Second Step curriculum. My role also includes meeting with individual students, holding group sessions and staying in contact with parents and outside resources. I believe that each student has different needs, and it is my goal to learn about each student and help them become strong, independent individuals.

What is Second Step?
Second Step is a curriculum that teaches students how to self regulate and to learn social emotional skills.  Throughout the lessons, students gain an understanding of skills for learning, empathy, emotion management and problem solving. Second Step sets students up for school and life success. Look for your child to bring home worksheets and/or descriptions of what he or she has been learning in Second Step this year.

Our Lady of the Lake is a familiar place for me. I was a Laker from Kindergarten through 8th grade, and graduated from Our Lady of the Lake in 2001. I went on to Holy Names Academy and then to Central Washington University. While completing my undergraduate degree, I found my desire to go into Social Work. After college, I narrowed down my career path even more and settled on school counseling. I received my M.Ed in 2012, and started my career as Our Lady of the Lake's first counselor. I look forward to working with all students and parents. Please do not hesitate to contact me for anything.
