Early Start is a Kindergarten preparatory program based on the goals and mission statement of Our Lady of the Lake Parish School.

The Early Start Program at Our Lady of the Lake Parish School directly benefits a child who is 4 years old by August 31st, or a child whose parents, former pre-school teacher or school evaluator believe would benefit from an extra year before entering the often fast-paced requirements of Kindergarten. The Early Start pre-kindergarten is an added program to augment the higher grades at Our Lady of the Lake Parish School: Kindergarten through eighth grade. A pre-school is being opened in the Fall of 2006.

In Early Start our goal is to nurture the innate love of learning in every child. We strive to feed their curiosity in a loving, dynamic environment with a variety of programs and activities. Assuring a childs success is our primary objective. We offer experimental natural science, fine motor skill development, large muscle development, library time, alphabet and number concepts, writing, music and movement, dramatic play, field trips, listening skills and problem solving. These are incorporated into thematic or seasonal units.

Social readiness skills are some of our most important work in Early Start. The environment of the class is friendly and respectful. Our rules are developed around safety first and consideration of each member of the group. We create an atmosphere in which children are encouraged to be self-starting and develop self-discipline at a developmentally appropriate level.

Early Start is fully integrated into the school. Early Start participates in most school activities like assemblies, all school mass, school families, etc. In addition, throughout the week students in Early Start are taught by the Music Specialist, as well as the Librarian.

To be as flexible as possible we offer enrollment options. You may choose a schedule from 3-5 days. Enrollment is limited to 16 per day in the class. The teacher in Early Start is Mrs. Julie Baricevic, she has been working with pre-school children for over 10 years. Her assistant is Ms. Jill Streit. Kids Club is available from 12:30 p.m. -3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (determined by need).
