“OLL's challenging and hands-on science program more than prepared my daughter for the rigor of high school science.”

Teacher's Comments

Welcome to Our Lady of the Lake Preschool.  It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Preschool playdate. As many of you know we will start with our Mini-schedule on Tuesday and Wednesday and then our regular hours will begin on Thursday.  There is no Kids Club ( After school program from 12.30 to 3.00 pm) for that first week of school.  Please pack your child a lunch for Thursday and Friday.  We are not aware of any food allergies in our group this year so feel free to make those peanut butter sandwiches.  Please take time to read over the Preschool Handbook and complete your child questionaire as soon as possible.
The first day of school is an exciting milestone in your child's life.  Your child is embarking on a journey that will lead them on many roads of discovery and learning.  As wonderful as this new experience may be, it can also be quite stressful for a young child.  It is common for even the most outgoing child to be anxious on the first day.  Please know we are here to help make the first day of school a happy transition and we look forward to an exciting and fun year.

In our Preschool there is a consistent framework for the day that provides a balanced variety of experiences and learning opportunities. Children engage in both individual and social play, participate in small- and large- group activities, assist with cleanup, socialize during meals, develop self-care skills, and exercise their small and large muscles.

Group times are used as an opportunity to introduce new materials, activities, and concepts.  Small- and large-group times for preschoolers each generally last about 15 minutes. During these times, we introduce children to new materials, ideas, and activities, which the children can then continue to explore at work time. Group times also offer social opportunities to all children.

As the weather begins to shift from summer to fall, please dress your child accordingly.  We will continue to play outside everyday.  Tennis shoes with velcro, are the best option for Preschool play.  They keep your child's feet safe in the woodchips and are easy for them to put on independently.  Curriculum night is on Wednesday September 17 at 7.00 pm. We would like to make this an adult only night if possible. Information will be shared about the program and time will be spent answering questions and socializing.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
