“OLL's challenging and hands-on science program more than prepared my daughter for the rigor of high school science.”

Teacher's Comments

Hello Preschool families,

Young children have a hard time understanding Lent. One way of explaining Lent is that it's a time to bring us closer to God.  The children were visited by Father Tim on Ash Wednesday to receive their ashes.  The message sent to the children was to Pray and do good like no one is watching you.  God knows.
One simple prayer that we are adding to our morning routine this year is called, "My Morning Offering".
God, our Father, I offer you today
all I think and do and say.
I offer it with what was done on
earth by Jesus Christ, your son.

We will be sharing our pretzel bags with the upper grades later this week. The pretzel is the most appropriate food symbol in Lent. It still shows the form of arms crossed in prayer, reminding us that Lent is a time of prayer. It consists only of water and flour, thus proclaiming Lent as a time of fasting.

The children chose the next theme for our classroom.  Three choices were offered up for a classroom vote and Dinosaurs were the chosen topic.  We hope to learn a little about what dinosaurs look like.  That Dinosaurs lived along time ago (65 million years) and that they existed for a very long time.  We will discuss the reasons why some dinosaurs were plant eaters and some meat eaters.  We will talk about the fact that no humans were living during the time of the dinosaurs and that we have learned about them from Paleontologists.  We will talk about fossils and where they come from.  Hopefully some fun craft projects will be part of our week of learning.
As we continue through our Spring weather.  Please continue to send your child with a warm, water proof coat daily - even if they do not want to wear it to school, we encourage the children wear coats outside! .

Thanks so much.
